To be eligible to enroll in Mississippi State’s BAS program, you must have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 at the time of admission. The remaining course credit hours will be determined by an academic advisor with the intent of meeting your career goals within the framework of the BAS degree requirements. 


To earn a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, you must:

  • Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours with at least 30 credit hours at the upper division level (Junior level or above).
  • Complete the university’s general education core requirements (15 credit hours of general education core courses earned as part of the AAS). You may exercise flexibility in determining the remaining general education core requirements for the applied science degree based on your specific career goals.
  • Complete a minimum of 30 credit upper division level hours at MSU.

** Students will choose either 1 BAS emphasis area of 30 credit hours or 2 BAS emphasis areas of 15 credit hours each unless students are majoring in Business Office Technology, Healthcare Administration, or Public Management.

** General Technical Electives may include technical community/junior college level or military credits, experiential learning (job experience) credits not to exceed six semester credit hours, while up to 45 technical credits will be completed at the community/junior college level or as military credits.

*** Students must complete at least 30 hours of upper-division hours at MSU.

To receive academic credit for technical credits, military credits, or job-related experiential learning, the appropriate academic unit may need to evaluate the relevant supporting documentation for such credits on a case-by-case basis. To earn the degree, you must meet all the program requirements as outlined above and graduate at a minimum with an MSU GPA of 2.00 and an overall GPA of 2.00. In the case of military credits, those approved by the American Council of Education may articulate over to your transcript.
